October 10, 2007

The event was designed to raise public awareness about the Blackstone Valley's rich history and culture.
Bob Largess, the stagecoach driver, stopped along the journey for TV and radio interviews, spoke in front of audiences telling the story of historical stagecoach travel and the Footsteps in History Weekend. The event was covered widely, with front-page stories in both the Pawtucket Times and Woonsocket Call, feature stories in the Providence Journal and Worcester Telegram and Gazette and via the Associated Press as well as television stations WJAR NBC 10, WLNE ABC 6, WCTR-TV Newswatch 3 plus WTAG radio and other stations, culminating in over 70 media placements. The stagecoach journey alone doubled media coverage from that received in 2006. An estimated 16,000 people attended the weekend's events.

"We hope this online resource encourages public relations professionals to think critically about their efforts to reach the Hispanic market and adopt practices reflecting a deeper understanding of Hispanic culture and current affairs," said Beadle.
"It's not enough to offer word-for-word language translation of your news release or marketing collateral material in hopes of reaching Hispanic audiences," said Juana Horton, president of the Hispanic American Chamber of Commerce of Rhode Island and president and CEO, Horton Interpreting Service, Inc.
"We live and work in a multi-cultural world. Sensitivity to different traditions and ethnicities is now key to the success of any business," said Horton.
